Emotions

Thanks for the discussion last night. Here are the bible quotations that I was reading from (which seem to indicate that the bible doesn't have a water-tight model of the distinctions between "heart", "spirit", "mind" and "soul" that many modern Christians have):

Lk 19:41 As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it.

Php 1:3 I thank my God every time I remember you.
1:4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy... 1:7 It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God's grace with me. 1:8 God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.

Rom 8:22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 8:23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

Mt 13:15 For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.'

Heb 10:15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: 10:16 "This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds."

1Cor 2:10b The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 2:11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 2:12 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. 2:13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. 2:14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 2:15 The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment: 2:16 "For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.
-- spirit || thinking?

1 Cor 14:14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. 14:15 So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.
-- spirit is NOT mind?

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
